Integrated Product Policy in the Telecommunication Sector

The proposed project refers to Eco-design and End of Life Management of telecom devices which is one of the most widespread electronic products. Coordinator of the program, on behalf of the Union, is Haralabos Lemonopoulos. The Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce participates in the program which includes 6 other participants: Intracom, Aristotle University, National Technical University of Athens, Poiotiki, Polyeco and E.P.T.A. The main objectives of the project are the following:

1.  Eco-Design of a Selected Telecom device:  This aims to the development of an electronic product with minimized environmental impacts during the whole life cycle.  This involves the development of a device which is easy to disassemble, enabling the reuse of components and materials, and has low environmental impact during production.

2.    End of life management of a selected Telecom device:  This aims to demonstrate an eco-efficient way to close the material and component loop.  This involves the development of economic efficient options for product reuse, disassembly, component reuse and recycling.

3.   Utilization of the experience gained for the development of a methodological framework for the Eco-design and End of Life Management of the other electronic products.

Expected results

1.   Implementation of Eco-Design and End of Life Management to a selected telecom device

2.    Development of an eco-efficient electronic product that will be released in the market

3.    Development of Eco-Label Criteria for Telephone Devices or other Telecom products

4.    Development of a methodological framework for the implementation in other electronic products

5.     Consumer and Producer awareness
