The Information Society. Project: «ADAPTATION OF THE CHAMBERS’ INFORMATION SYSTEMS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE GENERAL COMMERCIAL RECORD (G.E.MI) and THE CREATION OF AN UP-TO-DATE SERVICE FOR REDUCING BUREAUCRACY AND THE SERVING OF BUSINESSES BY THE CHAMBERS» (2007-2008)

The proposed project, whose beneficiary will be the UHCCI and which will be coordinated by the Hellenic Center for European Studies (EKEM), has the following goals:

     a)      The upgrading and adaptation of the Information Systems (I.S.) of the 59 Chambers in Greece within the scope of the operation of G.E.MI, so that radical changes won’t be demanded of the Chambers’ IS that relate to their internal organization and the providing of services to their members that have an additional charge. This is also so that the support is strong for the local reproductions that will regard information about Member Businesses of the local Chamber (which will be in synchronization with G.E.MI).

     b)      The upgrading of Tele-collaboration and Teletraining Infrastructures in the Chambers, through the creation of a dedicated room in each Chamber as well as in 4 other bodies (UHCCI, Brussels Office, General Secretariat for Commerce, etc). The goals for those working at the Chambers are: the automation of their communications regarding daily operations issues, electronic collaboration and distance training. For business owners: participation of local business owners in Teletraining, Distance Education and Tele-collaboration programs, where room is available.

     c)      The creation of an up-t-date Virtual Private Network for the Chambers (VPN) through eurozone link-ups and the application of tele-collaborations and teleconferences.

     d)      The creation of a complete one-stop shop for business services by the Chambers that covers all four levels of Electronic Governance:

h        Level 1: Information services

h        Level 2: Electronic communication and interaction services between Businesses – UHCCI/Chambers – Public Administration.

h        Level 3: Two-way interaction services for the electronic submission of requests to the Public Administration by businesses.

h        Level 4: Complete services for electronic administrative processes and transactions of businesses with the Public Administration, including electronic signing and electronic payment, where necessary.

     e)      The realization of a plan for the publication and promotion of the goals and services of the suggested project, in order to achieve the widest possible sensitization, mobilization and participation by businesses in the utilization of the project.

The project has been approved by the General Secretariat for Commerce at the Ministry of Development, who is jointly responsible, and the realization phase is expected to begin soon.
